Suggest Treatment For Swelling And Red Rashes On The Ankle
First, thanks for being here with me! I m a 71 year old female in pretty good health, overweight, but otherwise healthy. I have never had food poisoning, but after eating a light lunch Thurs., 7/13/17, at a local Italian restaurant, we came home and I started feeling terrible, chills, shaking, etc. Light fever and only light barfing . Slept OK that night, and just in/out of bed the entire next lost day! My husband s meal was pasta based and I basically ate the house salad, same as my husband, some bruschetta (sp?) and a bit of the peppers/onions/olive oil side dish. In fact, I kept teasing that the real lunch would be a no cook treat . OK, so Sat., 7/15/17 was another take it easy day but by the afternoon I d noticed a red hot rash around my left ankle and some swelling! Now I thought it might be heart related. I was close to calling 911, but I had no other symptoms, so kept left leg elevated and waited to see if I could get better. Today, Monday, 7/17/17, I went to Urgent Care -- no comment. I tried to get an appointment with a cardiologist, but have to wait until tomorrow when they will call and let me make an appointment. This sure has made me even more grateful to have enjoyed good health all these years! Also, my regular Dr. can t see me until next week. Now I m wondering if this red rash is serious or what?
Hi and welcome. Thank you for your query.Well, if you dont recall injury then swelling of the ankles and feet is often an early symptom of venous insufficiency, a condition in which blood inadequately moves up the veins from the legs and feet up to the heart. Normally, the veins keep blood flowing upward with one-way valves. When these valves become damaged or weakened, the blood leaks back down the vessels and fluid is retained in the soft tissue of the lower legs, especially the ankles and feet. Chronic venous insufficiency can lead to skin changes, skin ulcers, and infection. You should treat this with elastic stockings, keeping leg elevated and in severe caes you should see vascular surgeon for further treatment. Wish you good health. Regards
