Suggest Treatment For Swelling In The Toes

Hello there, so i been having a issue that has been causing me greatly pain. So about 3 days ago i got done a pedicure. the lady who did my nails said that she made sure she took out the ingrown nails that were in the sides of the toes...she showed me the pieces, and yes i can tell she did a great job, because when she would rub my toes there was no pain, so she got rid of ingrown toenails. later on about an hour in a half, i started feeling some pain. my two big toes felt swollen. i then took a look at it. there was pus coming out from the sides. the next day my two big toes were red, and swollen. and discharge keep coming out. when look at the toes. yet theres still some pus coming out. and on the side of the nail, there seems to be like a little red lump or flap, i am not really sure what it is, but when touching it, it really causes me pain. now i know for a fact that theres no in grown toe nail. so what can it possibly be. i been taking care of it. i been putting antibiotics, but i don t really know what should i do.

Hi,

Certainly you seem to have ingrown toe nails. In addition to the topical antibiotic I suggest you to also take an oral antibiotic, e.g., either Amoxicillin or Cephalexin, for a week. You may take an oral anti-inflammatory, e.g., tablet Ibuprofen for symptomatic relief from pain and swelling.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Kakkar S.,
