Playing tennis last Thursday and heard a loud pop in my right calve and followed by pain. Did the ice pack and ace bandage and a few days later I was able to walk somewhat normal. However, my foot, specifically around the ankle is swollen and I have a small bruise right above my ankle. Should I go to the DR or keep doing what I m doing?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Asad Sami's Response
Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic. I have read your question and i can understand your concerns.
If i were your treating physician i would have looked for achilles tendon rupture.it can occur while playing sports.i would have felt for a palpable gap in the continuity of gastrocnemius muscle.rupture of gastrocnemius tendon(achilles tendon) is treated according to the gap between two ends.most cases can be treated conservatively.surgical fixation of tendon can also be done. Other possibility is ankle sprain.
I would have prescribed non steroidal anti inflamatory drugs such as aceclofenac 100mg and gel such as ibuprofen and rest for some days.
I would suggest you to meet orthopedic surgeon.
Thanks. Hope the answer is helpful. Feel free to ask further question. Regardss Dr asad sami
