Suggest Treatment For Swollen And Bruised Foot

Two days ago I stepped on my dogs chewing bone (marrow bone). It cause a horizontal laceration on the bottom of my right foot along with brusing and swelling. The laceration itself is not too deep but the bone did quite a bit of damage to the arch of my foot. There is a circular mass about the size of a quarter above the laceration where the most pressure of the injury occured. My main concerns are infection and possible fracture or brusing of the bone in my foot. How high of a risk of infection due to it being a marrow bone (the bone is approx. 3 weeks old and the inside had been all chewed out by my dog). Also, should I continue working ( my job requires me to be on my feet for 14 hour shifts.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Risk of infection relatively high with dog saliva on it. Go to the ER for a clean-up, tetanus shot and possibly an X-ray of your foot.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Anders Mark Christensen, General Surgeon
