Suggest Treatment For Swollen And Inflamed Area On The Breast
I have a flushed, warm, area on my left breast near the areola. The area is about 1-2 inches across in size. My breast tissue under that area feels inflamed or a little swollen on the inside. There is no lump or anything. It just seems puffy on the inside and is a slight bit tender to the touch. Also, I am just getting off my monthly period. Is it something to be concerned about?
Tender and warm swelling generally points towards an inflammatory lesion. Such swelling may occur randomly irrespective of your menstrual cycle. If you develop fever then the diagnosis moves towards a breast abscess in which case you need medical attention. If the swelling progress in size, skin over the swelling remains normal or the swelling gets fixed to underlying structure you have to consult a doctor immediately. Otherwise, you can wait and watch for a few days and it should gradually subside. Hot water sponging may help with pain.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Tejas, General & Family Physician
