Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my 23 year old son was in a bad motorcycle accident last Sunday. The front of his right foot took off the front of a car that pulled in front of him. He had a large tear in the top of his foot, destroyed 2 metatarsals, a damage his tendons. The surgery put pins and plates in his foot and has has large stitches that will be removed in a week. In the last few days he has complained about the pain getting worse and now his foot is more swollen than it was 2 days ago when we were at the Dr s office. All around his stitches is now black and the stitches look like they want to pop off? Why is it all of a sudden swollen and black?
It is possible that your son's foot is infected, which can cause increased pain, swelling, and discoloration around the wound site. The black color around the stitches could indicate tissue death (necrosis) due to infection.
It is important to have your son's foot evaluated by a doctor as soon as possible to determine if he needs additional treatment, such as antibiotics or surgical debridement to remove dead tissue. In the meantime, he should keep his foot elevated, apply ice to reduce swelling, and take any pain medications prescribed by his doctor.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
