Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am writing this for my 45 year old son who doesn't have a computer. He has swelling on one side in the jaw area. He remembers opening his mouth big to eat something two days ago and has had problems since. Yesterday he ate soft products. Today the swelling was down until he ate lunch and it popped right back. No pain except a bad headache yesterday that went away with pills. Any ideas?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns....
As per your complain swelling on jaw area that has occurred while taking food and is painless and has reappeared after taking meals again can be due to any obstruction in the duct of the salivary gland due to formation of crystalline stones.. Due to formation of stone in the duct of the gland the saliva is restricted in flowing to mouth from gland and it backflows to the gland. As the saliva flow increase during meals the swelling become more prominent due to accumulation of more saliva in gland.. I would suggest you to consult an Oral physician and get him evaluated. He can also advise you cross-sectional x ray of the gland or an MRI.. In case of stone removal can be done either if the stone is superficial or by surgery if it is deep..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora..
