I have been in hospital for infection in my left index finger which was treated by iv antibiotic for 3 days. I was discharged on Friday 1st July and now on oral antibiotics 500mg 3 times a day, but my arm where the iv was in is now very painful, red and swollen? Do I need to go back to the A & E
By your history and description, possibility of thrombophlebitis (inflammation of veins) is more likely. Better to visit your doctor and get it checked. You will need thrombophobe cream, antibiotic cream and oral supportive treatment. So consult your doctor and discuss all these.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Kaushal Bhavsar, Pulmonologist
