Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What causes sudden lip swelling, followed by cheek swelling? Swelling went down on lips, followed by white patches inside lips . Swelling went down after about 3 hrs. CheeKS still a little swollen following day. No pain. I am a 70 year old male with diabetes. This came on suddenly yesterday morning after getting up and ha b in my usual coffee. Please advise.
Sudden swelling of the lips and cheek seems to be Allergic Angioedema and can be due to exposure to some unknown allergen and as the effect of the allergen reduced, the swelling started subsiding gradually..
I would suggest you to consult an Allergist and get evaluated and he can do a thorough clinical evaluation and also advise you investigations like Patch test , RAST test, food challenge test and rule out the exact cause of the problem and treat you accordingly..
As of now you can take anti allergics like Benadryl in case if the swelling recurs.. You can also do cool compresses over the lips and cheek.. Drink plenty of water and take a nutritious diet..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
