Suggest Treatment For Swollen Fingers After An Insect Bite

My husband was bitten by some type of insect about 10 hours ago on his index finger. His finger is very stor, stiff, a little swollen, and he cannot fully flex the finger. It feels oddly sticky and clammy on the back of his hand from the index finger to his wrist. No shortness of breath, no cramps, no aching muscles, no headache, no dizziness, no nausea. Just a very sore finger. The pain is relieved when he soaks his finger in ice water. Does he need medical assistance - or just need to watch the symptoms?

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your query about swelling in finger due to insect bite is due to poison from insect bite due to which allergic response is there and there is localised swelling. I suggest you to give cetrizine and local application of soframycin ointment. Application of ice water will be helpful several times. If any other discomfort is seen you should see the doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Jyoti Pandey
