Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, My right tonsil is swollen, has a big white patch behind it and when I swallow my throat and ear are in severe pain. I went to the doctor and they did a strep test said the strep came back negative but thought it was wrong and put me on an antibiotic. I have been on the antibiotic for a day and half and the pain is still severe. Could this be something else?
First of all give the antibiotics a chance to start taking effect which should be seen only after about 24-48 hours. After this the pain should start subsiding.
Cilinically strep throat is easily differentiated from oral thrush which also has some amount of white patches at the back of the throat around the pharynx and on the tongue.
But if at all there is no improvement with the antibiotics first consider changing the antibiotic and then consider adding an anti-fungal medication to the treatment chart.
Best wishes.
