hi I am a smoker and I have copd bad im 45 yrs old last may I was incubated and this may my lung collapsed and I almost got a chest tube but I had such anxiety the thoracic surgeon was so nice he told me he would sedate me if he had to put the chest to in because I was told they were just gion to numb the area thats why I was so scared but the hole was so small the doctor didnt do it I just had to be on Iv antibiotics what stage of COPD would you think I am I was hospitalized may,june and july I just saw my pulmonologist yesterday and today because my breathing was so bad I didnt want to go to er I was afraid I would be admitted again thank you
COPD needs a multidimensional approach for treatment. Treatment follows like this. 1. Cessation of smoking if you are a smoker. This is a fundamental part of treatment. 2. Inhaled treatment. You are on good drugs so continue with the same. 3. Enroll in Pulmonary rehabilitation programme where chest physiotherapy is done. 4. Vaccinate yourself with respiratory vaccines like pneumococcal and H. influenza for prevention of infection in future. Simultaneous application of above all steps is needed for better control of COPD. And it is acceptable if you miss inhaler done once in a while.
