Hi Doctor Im Leo 31 years old Male. My VDRL test report is Reactive and HIV test is Negative. What i have to do? I know IV penicillin is the effective drug for this. Could u advice me the dose? Is it a permanent cure for this disease? Or will it come back again ? Please reply me.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. VDRL test is a screening test for syphilis. It measures antibodies that your body may produce if you have come in contact with the bacteria called 'Treponema pallidum'. Syphilis is transmissible by sexual contact with infectious lesions, from mother to fetus in utero, via blood product transfusion, Penicillin is the treatment of choice for treating syphilis. Benzathine penicillin G 2.4 million units intramuscularly (IM) in a single dose is the treatment to be administered. The prognosis is good following appropriate treatment. T pallidum remains highly responsive to the penicillins, and cure is likely. Hope the information provided is clear. All the vest.
