Suggest Treatment For Throat Infection

i have had an itchy throat at the base of my throat which causes me to cough most of the time this has been going on for about 6 weeks now from coughing all the time i in the last 3 days i have only been able to eat soup as any thing else when i swollow causes me to have a coughing fit that eventually makes me sick i saw the nurse practioner at my doctors on friday and she said my throat was inflamed what she failed to understand the itching and coughing all the time was what had caused this i also told her that the inflamed part did not hurt as i'd had the itchy throat and cough for so long and the redness on my throat a few days

As per your complain itchy throat along with cough that is lingering since 6 weeks can be due to reasons like Chronic throat infection, allergies, Allergic Bronchitis etc..
I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like throat swab culture,chest x ray and blood tests to look for allergies and infection can help in diagnosis and treatment can be planned accordingly..
You can be advised to take a course of antibiotics like Azithromycin, anti allergics like Allegra or Levocetrizine, cough suppressants like Dextromethorphan..
Do warm saline gargles, steam inhalations and use a humidifier in your room..
Sip on warm water and avoid spicy and chilled foods..
Take a soft and bland diet..
