Hello, Welcome to HCM. Thanks for posting your query in HCM.I understand your concerns. Thyroiditis can be of 3 types.1.Acute thyroiditis 2.Subacute thyroiditis 3.Chronic autoimmune thyroiditis
If your mother is having fever and pain in the throat region, then she may be having acute thyroiditis. She need to take a curse of antibiotics like ampicillin or cephalosporins.
Subacute thyroiditis is self-limiting; therefore, Low-dose levothyroxine may be necessary in some patients who develop hypothyroidism.
Treatment for chronic autoimmune thyroiditis depends on the results of the thyroid function tests. Patients with overt hypothyroidism who have high thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) and low free T4 levels require treatment with levothyroxin.
Enlarged jugular nodes are nothing but enlarged lymph nodes due to infection of thyroid. It will subside once infection comes down.
Hope you are happy with the answer.
Thank you
