Suggest Treatment For Tinnitus And Ear Pain

I'm 25, 5ft 5 and about 9 stone. I have had a grommet stuck in my ear canal for a while (was initially inserted about 10 years ago), have seen my GP who advised due to previous perforations it was best to try and remove it naturally (using eardrops to soften the wax and wiggling my ear in the shower to try and loosen it.) After more pain earlier this week, I saw my GP on monday who advised that the eardrum had perforated again and prescribed me oral antibiotics and told me to take pain relief. 2 days later the pain is much worse and I have a constant 'whirring' sound in my ear. I am unable to get in at my GP and NHS Direct have referred me back to him after speaking to them this morning. Are you able to offer me any advice?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

You need to consult an ENT Surgeon. They will do examination under microscopy of the ear. If a grommet has been stuck with ear pain and discharge then we have to remove the grommet.

Start an antibiotic tablet Amoxicillin once twice daily for 7 days. Also, start tablet Paracetamol thrice daily for 3 days.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Rajat Basak
