Suggest Treatment For Umbilical Hernia Which Is Attached To The Bowel
I wondered why the doctors would not operate to remove a umbilical hernia which is attached to the bowel of my 87 year old mother. She is having sodium chloride and glucose. She has not been able to eat for three weeks due to constant vomiting. She has a tube down her nose to her stomach and has been sleeping nearly all the time. I know they can no longer help her and wondered how long she can go on like this.
Hi, Surgery at this age and condition is difficult and can be very critical. Any surgery involving the abdomen is major surgery and especially in elderly with reduced lung, heart, liver and kidney functions - general anesthesia poses huge risk. She is on palliative therapy. You need to discuss further events regarding her and plan for future. She wont be around for long as any infection would deteriorate her condition in hours. Take care. Any further queries, do ask again.
