Suggest Treatment For Unilateral Conjunctivitis

7th day of unilateral conjunctivitis that has progressively worsened. Diagnosed as bacterial without testing or stain. 7 days of Gentamicin O.D. every 4 hours. Original eye is badly swollen and painful, eyelid is purple and does not change color to the touch. Second eye now shows signs of involvement. preauricular nodes are swollen and painful bilaterally. Axillary node was swollen and painful unilaterlaly. 1g zithromax was administered orally 2.5 days ago. Axillary node improved but preauricular nodes did not. Is this likely a viral infection or is this a gentamicin resistant bacteria and it is time to move to a stronger antibiotic?

hi dear

yes ,it could be a viral infection but antiviral medicines are not required unless there is a corneal involvement which would cause a disturbance in vision

you should also be taking a higher that is a broad spectrum antibiotic
which could be a combination of amoxicillin and clavulanic acid
also change your antibiotic eye drops
can use moxifloxacin or gatifloxacin

not to worry
good luck
