Suggest Treatment For Urticaria And Hives On Hands

i have had urticaria since May 9th. I have been on Zyrtec and zantac two pills each twice a day and Benedryl every 6 hours. No relief. Doctor added montelukast at bedtime, still no relief. She then added doxipen at bedtime and advised that I increase the dose by 10mg every three days. I got up to 40 mg per night and I had hives all over my neck and face. She then put me on a fourth round of prednisone to relieve the hives. That is the only thing that worked. The doctor took blood and said I am allergic to feathers. I sent my parrot out of the house. I had previously had him quarantined. He has been gone from my house for a week and I have only had sporadic hives. Last night I had a acne looking rash all over my face and I was itching again. I had a burning sensation in my ears and nose. Today I have hives on my hands, feet, and under my chin and on my jaw line. My nose feels like it is burning inside and my cheekbones feel hot on the inside. i am still taking all the meds except for the prednisone. Do you have any advice for me?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The case is documented for allergic condition induced hives. As lot of therapies are already offered with limited results, in my opinion, detailed evaluation of type of antibodies (IgG, IgE and others) present in the blood with complement levels are must to be done. Further management over and above the steroids would be monoclonal antibodies that modify the pattern of antibody response if needed.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
