Suggest Treatment For Wet Gangrene At Base Of The Spine
Hi my nan has dry gangrene in her leg and also just developed wet gangrene at the base of her spine due to being bedridden. She is 83, has dementia and diabetes. Amputation is not an option. Doctor have just stopped her medication of warfarin and under active thyroids. Could you tell me how long someone can survive with wet gangere without amputation and stopping of medication? She is so frail and is suffering so much
Hi, Thanks for asking. Sorry for you nanny present condition Based on your query, my opinion is as follows. 1. Bed sores are a very common complication of being bedridden. Regular movement is necessary to prevent bed sores. 2. She wont be able to survive anesthesia due to her old age, and so surgery is not an option. 3. Survival is dependent on the infection, which is going to complicate and make her critical. She can be given narcotic analgesics to reduce pain. She wont be around for long, so comfort and have the family around. Hope it helps. Any further queries, happy to help again.
