Hi,
I understand quite well your concern
Amitriptyline is a
tricyclic antidepressant used to treat symptoms of
depression. It works by increasing the amounts of certain natural substances in the brain that are needed to maintain mental balance.
This medication may be prescribed for other uses.
Just as one begins to feel normal, the depression can return with a complete vengeance.
I don't know why you've decided to stop taking this medication, BUT
PLEASE it's very IMPORTANT to try NOT TO TAKE any STEPS without consulting to your
psychiatrist first !!! It's NOT SAFE to take your own decision to stop this medication.
I suggest you;
1.Amitriptyline may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away. (you didn't refer to me any other symptom)
2.to continue to take amitriptyline even if you feel well.
3.Do not stop taking amitriptyline without talking to your doctor.
4. Your doctor will probably decrease your Dose GRADUALLY, if he evaluates first your mental condition and decides to decrease your medication doses to stop taking it or he may advise you to stay on antidepressants much longer.
5. If you suddenly stop taking amitriptyline, you may experience
withdrawal symptoms such as
nausea, headache, and lack of energy.
Please consult with your psychiastrist and contact me again.
