Suggest Treatment For Withdrawal Symptoms Of Methylphenidate
I am treating. Child in therapy who has hair loss. One four of his hair is gone. He has seen a neurologist and a pediatrician. Would it be a good idea to also see a dermatologist? He took methylphenidate for a year but is off of it now. A rare side effect can be hair loss. Just wondering if I m overlooking something.
Hello As you mentioned hair loss might be a rare side effect of methylpenidate but you must also consider the fact that it is one of the best drugs available for ADHD. Before thinking of withdrawing the drug try to eliminate other causes such as hormonal levels, vitamin deficiency and such. There is no better drug for the same condition as methylphenidate but if it is confirmed that its the cause of hairfall then a judgement must be made based on potential benefits and disadvantages of withdrawing it. It can be a good idea to visit a dermatologist for an evaluation as they can see if there is any other condition causing it.
