Suggest Treatment Option For Pilonidal Cyst Associated With Fever

I have a pilonydal cyst (I believe now an abscess technically).it drained itself last time and was dormant for ten years.now it is back, very big and painful and I have associated fever. I have no insurance. Do you know what I can do or a ballpark of the likely cost?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that pilonidal cyst along with fever is an indication that you have am infection that is leading to Pilonidal Abscess..

Infection gets into blood from site of infection and can cause fever and pain..

It can occur due to causes like traumatic injury to tailbone area, ingrown hairs, infection in the area etc..

I would suggest you to consult a Proctologist or a General Surgeon and get evaluated and a clinical examination is generally sufficient and if required x ray can also be advised..

In case of Pilonidal abscess you can be advised a course of antibiotics, anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen and cool compresses over the area..
You can also be advised Incision and Drainage in case of abscess and Marsupialization or Enucleation in case of Cyst..

As of now you can take a combination of Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen to relieve pain and infection..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
