Suggest Treatment Sleeping Trouble And Depression

Have a daughter 20 years old. Problems sleeping. Hard to shut mind down. Keeps reviewing in mind negative experiences. Cannot control. Treated for depression in past. She says what she is experiencing is different from depression. Must concentrate on several things at one time. Should she see a psychiatrist or psychologist to diagnose problem? Also deals with anxiety worrying about future activities that have to be dealt with. Also deals with chest pains and headaches.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your 20 year old is suffering from headache and chest pain. She is also having sleeping problems and anxiety. To prevent headache she should make sure that she has taken adequate water, is well hydrated. She should not skip meals. Make sure that her vitals are normal like blood sugar level, blood pressure, sodium-potassium level, T3, T4, TSH, etc.

Get her clinically examined , get all required tests and investigations done to detect the pathology causing these symptoms. She will be treated accordingly. Since she is suffering from anxiety/depression, she is suggested to stay away from addictions if any. Make sleep her priority. She should try to take more of vegetables, fruits, whole grains and fish in comparison to oily food, junk food, processed food or packaged food.

She should take quality sleep. Stay active, avoid sedentary lifestyle. She should connect with friends, new friends, spend time outdoors, etc. She should do regular exercises, and do walking two times daily. She should take care of her hygiene. Chest pain can be due to acidity, gastritis, GERD, etc. She can take antacids or Digene gel, 10ml, SOS to get relief from the discomfort.

She can take acetaminophen, one SOS when required to get rid of headache. She should connect and get clinically examined by a GP, get all required tests and investigations done to detect any illness that is causing symptoms. She can get clinically examined by a Psychiatrist, to ensure that she does not have any mental problem developing. She will be treated accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
