Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m inquiring on behalf of my son-in-law. He was diagnosed w/ shingles 2days ago. I m requesting the restrictions in the presence of children & elderly population particularly their church congregation w/ ages of 9 yrs to the elderly. Church personnel has requested he work in the sound booth . Plan includes avoiding sanctuary w/ ages 1yr. TO 105 yrs.
Based on the history you have shared, he may need to be put on antiviral drugs like Acyclovir if diagnosed within 3-5 days of onset of symptoms.
Apart from that, OTC analgesics like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen along with more potent pain killers like Tramadol or gabapentin may be needed.
Also, close contacts with others may be avoided with onset within a week, and afterward, may continue the routine activities.
He may also need to have his renal function tests with acyclovir, as well as to rule out any immunocompromised state like diabetes, etc as shingles usually occur in low immunity conditions.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
