Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
just got my Blood work results, my cholesterol level is 297, HDL is 76, LDL is 200, so the Doctor called in a RX for me to start taking to lower my LDL, should I take this? I am 63yrs, female, 102lbs and active, feel great, really disappointed in my LDL level. Thanks
Dear Ma'm Thanks for writing to HCM. An LDLcholesterol level of 200 mg% is definitely a valid indication for statin therapy, irrespective of any other consideration. As per the latest advisory issued by ACC (american college of cardiology 2013), LDL cholesterol of more than 190 mg% is one of the four major indications for statin therapy. If your doctor has started a statin , you must take it. Sincerely Sukhvinder
