Suggest Treatments For Pain In Lower Chest

I can't eat. I hurt in the center, not between my boobs but right below them, in the middle, like at the top of my stomach or ribs or diaphragm or something, whatever that area is called. It feels like there is a lump or something in there and when I try to eat and food gets to that area it hurts and feels like the food will not go down any lower and I get sick. It hurts the least when I'm standing or laying but just about kills me if I eat or when I'm sitting.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, thank you for posting.

I have gone through your query very carefully.

Your symptoms might be related to Hiatal hernia. Hiatal hernia is the protrusion of the upper part of the stomach into the thorax.
To treat this disease you should follow these precautions:
1. When you have pain you should drink 1 glass of water of room temperature.
2. Eliminate spicy foods, sauces, coffee and milk from your diet.
3. Elevate the head of the bed.
4. Lose weight, if you are overweight.
5. Reduce stress.
6. Use Esomeprazole 40 mg 1 pill a day, 1 hour before you eat. Continue taking this medicine for 5-6 weeks.

The diagnosis is determined by the following tests:
1. Thorax X-ray.
2. Fibrogastroscopy(Endoscopy).

You should contact your gastroenterologist to discuss about the treatment.

I hope you find this helpful.

All the best.
Dr. Behar.
