Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
On rare occasions I have used a dose pak of prednisone. On a more recent occasion, I received a bottle of tablets and was told to take 3 (10) mg a day for 10 days. I read that you may need to wean off prednisone so - how is that done on the 3 tablets a day?
Tapering steroids such as Prednisone while at a high dose is often not so difficult.
Option for the taper in your case of taking 10 mg 3 times a day for 10 days could be
1. Take 3 capsules for 7 days
2. Followed by 2 capsules for 4 days
3. Then 1 capsule for 4 days
4. Then stop.
Do not stop the medication abruptly. However, if you get any unusual symptoms during the tapering schedule, you need to seek medical attention promptly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S, General & Family Physician
