Suggestion Vaccination For Accidental Cut On Finger From Dogs Teeth
hi, my sister was playing with our chihuahua when she accidentally pull her hand out the dogs mouth and she had a cut on her finger and is bleeding, she washed it with soap, our dog was vaccinated 3 days ago, does she still needs to be injected for the rabies? please help
Hi...Usually we prescribe vaccinatoin after a violent animal contact like - bite/ scratch or even a lick. Rabies is usually more possible from unprovoked bites from rabid animals especially dogs. If the dog is rabid it us unlikely to live more than 10 days from now... So keep a track of that particular dog & if its alive after 10 days.... Be rest assured that nothing is going to happen. Washing with running water and soap was an excellent & medically approved first aid after a bite... Don't worry. I suggest your sister to complete the all 6 vaccine shots in the schedule, being 0,3,7,14,28 & 90 days shots of anti-rabies vaccine.
I am happy to help anytime. Further clarifications on this website are welcome. Regards - Dr. Sumanth
