Swallowing Is Painful. Abrasions From Endoscopy Of Throat. Thyroid Or Cricoid Cartilage Causing Pain?
Yesterday I had an Upper GI endoscopy. Afterwards, swallowing was very painful to point that the Dr recommended a visit to the ER to check for a possible esophagus tear. I did not have a tear but they termed it abrasions from the endoscopy in my throat. Today, it is less painful but still hard to eat - so I m mostly drinking fluids. The front part of my throat where the thyroid lies is very sore. Can the endoscopy cause bruising or swelling to this area (thyroid or cricoid cartilage) which is causing the pain when I swallow - especially since the esophagus is at the back of the throat?
Endoscope has caused abrasion of the mucosal lining of the throat and it takes few days to heal. Just keep a watch about pain between the shoulder blades as this is a sign of esophageal tear and needs emergency attention. Do take mucain gel before each meal and things should be fine in few days. Regards
