Swelling After Hitting Leg, Tender To Touch, Bumpy. Is This Part Of The Healing Process?
2 weeks ago, I fell off my bike and hit my leg very hard. I had a large bruise and some swelling on the top outside part of my thigh. The brusing has nearly cleared up, but I still have swelling that has slightly increased over the last few days and it s still very tender to the touch. The area was bumpy, but now is smooth and swollen. Is this part of the healing process or should I see my PCP?
HI, welcome to HCM
Your bumpy swelling may be healing haematoma at injury site.
It is smooth is good sign, but if you have fever or moving difficulty it will be better to consult your doctor.
It will also better if you do an ultrasound of swelling to rule out the cause.
THanking you
Hi, Laura,
Thanks for query.
It seems that there might be forming hematoma at the site of injury giving rise to swelling.
Gradually collected blood will be absorbed and swelling will be subsided.
If swelling still persisted go for an antibiotic medicine course as blood is good medium of growing bacteria may cause infection.
Ok and bye.
