Swelling And Pain On Left Side After Wisdom Tooth Removal, Took Pain Killers. Will The Swelling Go Off ?
I had all four wisdom teeth removed on Wed. the 5th, and my dentist says that I had a complicated surgery. He had trouble with my left side and the swelling and pain was much worse on there. By Saturday the swelling was pretty much gone but I there was a large lump in my cheek that remained very swollen. On Sunday, they raised the mg of antibiotics and gave me stronger pain killers because I visited the ER and my dentist was unavailable. On Monday, I saw the dentist and he said I have to take sinus precautions and that it may be a blood clot from the surgery or a stressed muscle or something like that. He put me on pseudoephedrine and methylprednisolone and the lump has reduced in size. I'm concerned about when the lump will actually go away though because it is very uncomfortable and painful.
Thank you for this query in forum. The long standing but slowly regressing swelling you have after surgery is either an antibioma( a chronic inflammatory mass of pus cells due to long term use of antibiotics) or a haematoma ( formed by blood clot entangled in tissue spaces) . Both are not uncommon after traumatic surgical procedure or long term post surgical treatment. When you have treated with antihistaminic an steroid and your swelling is reduced a little, that supports the formation of antibioma or haematoma. Don't worry, the swelling will subside spontaneously, but surely will take time. Good luck and get well soon.
Hi, welcome to HCM forum Post extraction swelling and pain is common thing. As you have lump which is painful , can be a blood clot or hematoma formed. So follow your prescription thoroughly. Maintain proper oral hygiene so that infection will not occur at that site(dry socket). continue warm saline rinses. Take nutritious diet for rapid healing. Take care
hi... thanks for the query... don't be worried about the lump.... its one of the most common finding seen after wisdom tooth extraction... it will regress eventually with time... take proper course of your medication.... also do warm saline rinses 6-7 times a day... just be patient... everything will be fine... take care...
As per your history, the treatment offered to you by now is in correct lines.
please follow it,wait and watch, the symptoms should reduce.
If it still persists then please visit your dentist, as it could be an established infection too, which requires a course of antibiotics and analgesics.

Swelling And Pain On Left Side After Wisdom Tooth Removal, Took Pain Killers. Will The Swelling Go Off ?
Dear friend. Thanks for sharing your concern. As you have already visited your dentist ,post extraction. Also it is good that antibiotics have been started. It will take care of infection in your mouth. I would suggest to keep a close watch on the healing wound by periodic follow up,as there are chances of dry socket. Rest, do not worry ,it will heal soon.meanwhile you can do very gentle warm saline rinses after each meal. This will prevent food accumulation there. For further doubts please post your query here. Hope it helps. Thanks. Take care.
