Swollen Lymph Node In Neck. Got Mononucleosis. How Do We Deal With It?

My colleague (both teachers) and I both got mono in September last year. We missed about 4 months of work and then returned with our symptoms better, but not gone. She is 24 and i am 55. We both are still battling symptoms and a swollen lymph node in the neck now. Will it prolong the illness to return to school, or does it just have to run it's course?. I do not have to return by contract but do love teaching. We are both music teachers and I cannot sing over a few minutes before my glands flare up.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi and thank you for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about the diagnosis of mononucleosis and the persistence of symptoms even 4months later.

There is no specific treatment of this condition. Only the symptoms are manged while the disease runs its course. Progressively it would get better every other day though taking longer than typically.

Hope you find this helpful and informative. If you have any more questions, please ask us and we shall provide answers. I wish you a rapide resolution of symptoms and the best of health.

Welcome to HealthCare Magic

Hope you are doing good. Mononucleosis, or mono, is often spread by saliva and close contact. Mono is usually linked to the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), but can also be caused by other organisms such as cytomegalovirus (CMV). you are ready know about it sign and symptoms as you have suffered from it.

The goal of treatment is to relieve symptoms. Steroid medicine (prednisone) may be given if symptoms are severe.

Antiviral drugs such as acyclovir have little or no benefit.
Drink plenty of fluids.
Gargle with warm salt water to ease a sore throat.
Get plenty of rest.
Take acetaminophen or ibuprofen for pain and fever.
Take penicillin or erythromycin.

I hope have answered your Query. Feel free to ask
wish you good health.
