Swollen Lymph Node On Neck, Tuberculosis. Is It Contagious?
Hi Dr. My husband s lymph node on his neck is swollen. He has been diagnosed with tuberculosis . I m wondering if neck (cervical lymph node) tuberculosis is contagious? Cytopathology of FNAC on lymph node says that the features are suggestive of chronic suppurative and granulomatous inflammation. Chest X-ray, Sputum test (2 days) and Mantoux test are all negative. We have a 5 month old baby and are wondering if we should take any precautions? Thanks.
HI supreme
Thanks for coming to HCM
lymph node tuberculosis is paucibacillary disease with less chances of spread...TB usually spreads via droplet infection from patient of pulmonary tuberculosis...
In cases of even pulmonary tb patient usually becomes non contagious by weeks 2 or 3 if he is responding to the treatment.
since you are sputum negative on two occasion it is less likely for your baby at risk...
enjoy the life and best wishes
