Swollen Rectum. Does An Rectal Inflammatory Polyp Always Mean Inflammatory Bowl Disease?
Does an rectal inflammatory polyp always mean inflammatory bowl disease? I have had two colonoscopies 5yrs apart with a rectal inflammatory polyp. It was first palpated by my gynecologist with my annual exam. I do have symptoms that correlate with inflammatory bowl disease, such as being unable to defecate. It is not like constipation in the fact that when I do it is soft or loose. I also will have ribbon or pencil like bowel movement during these times. It also feels like my rectum is swollen or the BM does not engage into the rectum.
Hi, Thanks for posting your query. I am Dr.Ratnakar Kini and I am pleased to assist you.
No , rectal inflammatory polyp does not mean that you have inflammatory bowel disease. There are many other findings and microscopic findings that need to be present to be called as inflammatory bowel disease.
I hope that answers your question. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr.Ratnakar Kini
