Swollen Tongue After Being Cut By A Broken Tooth, Irritated Throat. Swollen Eyes With Discharge. Are These Related?

Hi, I have a broken tooth that had cut my tongue maybe two days ago. Now my tongue is swollen, my throat is severely irritated, the right side if my face has swelled considerably and my sinuses are a complete mess. I mean constant nasal drip while still feeling totally stuffed up (and when I use a tissue the only thing that comes out is like a clear gelatin-like substance), my eyes are partially swollen, red and somewhat leaking. So did all of this spark from a cut on my tongue or is the real issue the broken tooth? (by broken I mean that a small chunk of my tooth has chipped away) Furthermore, the tooth has been this way for sometime but I do not always have these same problems. In others words I will be totally fine for a period of time and then every once and a while this happens.

Hello dawny,

Thanks for writing in.

The swollen eyes and face may or may not be associated with broken tooth.
As the broken tooth caused trauma to the tongue,the tooth has to be treated as soon as possible to prevent further progression of disease.
Restoration or buid-up or crown placement has to be done depending on the severity of the infection underlying tooth.
Topical anaesthetic gel can be applied on the tongue injured.
There is chance of sinus infection too.
So please do consult an ENT SPECIALIST TOO.

Thanks for asking the query,

Pain and swelling in the tongue is due to trauma caused by the chipped tooth.

Sore throat can be due to bacterial or viral infection , swelling on right side due to sinusitis .
I would advice you to visit to an ENT Specialist and get complete checkup done and take treatment for sinusitis .

Apply dologel ointment topically over the affected area on tongue.

Take saline water gargles 3-4 times a day.

For broken tooth go crown placement , restoration depending upon the condition of tooth.

Swelling and pain in the tongue is caused due to trauma from broken tooth .

This injured area heals by its own and needs only symptomatic treatment like gargling with lukewarm saline water or antiseptic mouthwash like chlorhexidine or betadine.

you can apply oral antiseptic analgesic ointments like dentogel topically over the injured area.

Swelling in the eyes and watery eyes cannot be related to dental issues , for this you need to visit an ENT specialist and get the examination done who can come up with exact diagnosis.

For sinus infection please get an OPG radiograph done to rule out the exact cause and accordingly treatment can be planned.

Dear friend.

Thanks for sharing your concern.

you have bit your tongue accidentally,therefore it has got swollen and hurts.

Do not worry ,this will subside once it heals.As these lesions on tongue and mouth takes little more time to heal.

Regarding, your other symptoms like swollen eyes and discharge,it could be due to chronic sinusitis or could be a viral infection too.

In my view please meet your physician once in his regard and take suitable medication.This should help.

Meanwhile do warm saline rinses and also avoid hot and spicy food until your tongue gets back to normal.
