Systemic Staph A Infection, Power Loss In Hip Flexor And Knee Extensor Muscles. Weakness Related To Infection?
I am a PT and I have a patient who has had a serious systemic Staph A infection. She now shows significant power loss in the hip flexor and knee extensor muscles of one leg and one shoulder . As well she has a new dx of diabetes and endopthalmitis. Could the motor weakness be related to the infection? Or should be be looking for another neurological cause?
It is very difficult to comment as motor weakness in one half of the body is usually not due to infection as infection leads to rather complete paralysis, I would recommend a MRI of the spine to find out the cause of this weakness and a lumbar puncture with CSF examination is also going to help.
