Having menstrual cycle irregularities after taking pills is a common phenomenon in some women. It might be necessary to understand a few things first. The menstrual cycle is controlled by hormones. When pills are taken, which of course are hormones, they disrupt this cycle, producing effects that alter to an extent ovarian and uterine function. It might require sometime for the body to autoregulate itself to come back to its normal status. This might take abnormally long in some women, as might be your case. Persistence of irregular menses should however prompt a gynecologic consultation for other causes of irregular menses to be excluded. It s nice a pregnancy has been excluded. But an abdominal ultrasound would help more.
I suggest you book an appointment with your gynecologist. Best regards, Bain LE, MD.
