Taking Bisoprolol For Hypertension. Itching Facial Skin. Taken Fexofenadine. Help
hello, I'm taking Bisoprolol for hypertension , I'm 56 years old . I suffer with an itchy (annoying) skin on my face. I've tried six or seven other medications, all seem to result in this or other side effects. My gp says I'm very sensitive to medication! I've tried anti histamines , such as fexofenadine 250mg for 2 months without success. Any advice?
Hi , thanks for your query. Prima facie it seems that the itchy skin of your face is due to bisoprolol. You mentioned that other anti hypertensives result in this or other side effects I will like to suggest general measures which might help in reduction of itching. These are as follows: -keep your face well hydrated moisturisers. -drink 8-10 glasses of water daily -use a soap free cleanser for washing face -apply calamine lotion 3-4 times a day -cold water or ice can reduce the intensity of itching. -don't scratch or rub the skin as it will set up a scratch itch cycle. -take oral anti histamine like levocetrizine for a few days Hope this helps you Regards
Welcome and thanks for posting your query to Healthcare Magic.
After reading your query ther can be multiple of the possibilities of skin conditions on your face. You have mentioned only itching as main symptom.
This can be due to exposure to sun light or contact with certain chemicals such as in cosmetics or can be due to simple environmental factors also. IF the itching is accompanied with some small reddish bumps also then it could be due to the specific condition known as "rosacea".
For the betterment do cold compression oevr face for multiple times. You can apply over the counter available calamine lotion. In my patients I prefer to give "loratadine" as anti-itching drug. It can be taken up to four times a day if the itching is not controlled. You can try the same under medical guidance. Eat a lot of vitamin A containing fruits.
Despite above measures if the problem is not getting better then it is better to consult a dermatologist for best guidance.
Hope these informations will help.
