Taking Brilinta, aspirin, Metoprolol After Heart Attack. Take Anti-inflammatory Other Than Voltaren,Celebrex For Shoulder Blade, Muscle?
I am taking Brilinta, low dose aspirin & metoprolol after a mild heart attack. Am wondering if I can take any anti-inflammatory meds for shoulder blade & back muscle inflammation other than Voltaren or Celebrex. I did take Voltarin 1 daily for 3 days & noticed a large bruise which appeared on one inner forearm which I don't recall bumping? (it does say on the Voltaren box not to take more than 1 aspirin daily). I will obviously discuss with my cardiologist but wanted another opinion.
Because aspirin and the NSAIDS (voltaren, celebrex, cataflam, arcoxia, naproxen ,ibuprofen etc) prevent platelets from aggregating (sticking together), they are all associated with an increased risk of bleeding.
Because of the risk of bleeding if these medications are combined, it may be best not to use them together. This would encompass all the anti inflammatory pain medications.
This risk of bleeding is increased with the use of alcohol, liver disease, anti coagulants (such as warfarin, heparin).
There are other pain killers available that can be used instead.
I hope this helps
