Taking Doxycycline For Tick Bites. Have Fever, Headache, Chills. Worried About Tooth Staining

Hi Dr. Grief,
I'm a 66 y/o female on day nine (of a 14 day dose) of taking 100mg, 2 times per day, Doxycycline for tick bites. I found the ticks about 48 hours after I was in the woods on a nature trail in Kansas. There are deer in these woods. We have not been able to identify the tick species. The ticks were small, about 1/8 inch in diameter, one was sort of grey with red legs and antennae. The other was destroyed in the process of removing it, but the head remained in my skin.
Fourteen days after being in the woods, I had fever, headache, chills and felt ill. I saw the doctor two days later and was started on the Doxycycline. I have not had a bull's eye rash. I'm worried about tooth staining from the Doxycycline, so after I'm finished with the two weeks of Doxycycline, I've been given 10 days of Ampicillin, 500 mg, 3 times per day. Do you think I might have the tooth staining problem? With this combination of Doxycycline and Ampicillin, do you think I will be cured of any Lyme disease I may have contracted? is there anything else I need to do?
Thank you,
Dee

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
After going through your history, you are being treated for possible ticks born infection.
Please do not worry about teeth discolouration due to doxycycline as staining occurs during development stage in children and not in adults.
You are taking Ampicillin so you need not to worry at all.
These are very good antibiotics for treatment of Lymes disease so should be effective if there is any.
There are other causes of discoloration of teeth just keep good oral cleaning, scaling and flossing and visit to Dentist at regular interval.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
Good Luck.
