Taking Biaxin And Cefprozil Can Cause Shortness Of Breath?
I am taking biaxin and cefprozil 250 mg together, 2 of each twice a day for 14 days. Have had pneumonia before, about this time of year for the past 2 years. I have taken this now for 10 days, and recently have had shortness of breath. Would this be related to the medicine?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Katie Lee's Response
Hello,
I do not consider taking this two antibiotic treatment together is related to your symptoms of shortness of breath because there is no interaction between these two treatments.
However, Biaxin has reported rare side effects, up to less than 1% of patients, with dyspnea (shortness of breath), so this may be a possible contributing cause for your symptoms.
Since you are taking current antibiotic treatment for your current respiratory condition and has been prescribed for the condition which I suspect lower respiratory infection.
Your symptoms may be from your underlying respiratory condition, rather than from medications.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Katie Lee, General & Family Physician
