I wanted to start birth control bills so i consulted my doctor. he asked me when my last period ended which was October 1...he said i could go ahead and start minigynon 1 tab each night which i did...now is october 28 im on the pill and my period seem to have started..is this ok?...does that mean i should still take the pill break for 7 days?
Hi, Thanks for the query. Usually oral contraceptive pills to be stated in the first 5 days of the menstrual cycle. If you start the pills after 5 days, the protection may decrease. Oral contraceptive pills can present with side effects like intermenstrual spotting, break through bleeding etc. If you miss the time of intake of pills, that can lead to withdrawal bleeding. So, may be you are having spotting because of these things. You should continue the pack irrespective of your bleeding pattern. After one week break, you can start the new pack. Then only the purpose of contraception can be achieved. Take care.
