Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Even though there is a possibility of development of DVT after internal fixation of long bone in young adults, it generally occurs within a few days after surgery. And the typical symptoms of DVT include swelling of the entire leg, pain in the leg often starts in the calf, presence of local warmth over the leg & changes in the skin colour either to white or red. If any of these symptoms develop, you may need to urgently rush to the ER.

She is not advised to bear weight on the operated leg till bony union occurs which usually takes around 3-4 months.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
