Hello,
Thanks for your query.
GERD is a common condition many people encounter with, it is caused by muscular abnormality in
esophagus that leads to regurgitation of stomach contents back into esophagus. It presents with heart burn and may cause irritation in throat because acidic contents of stomach can damage your esophagus and pharynx.
GERD is common in fatty people and it may be associated with Hiatal hernia.
You need to change your life style which may be enough to get rid off GERD:
avoid fatty foods, mints, chocolates, alcohol,
nicotine, and caffeinated beverages, such as coffee or colas, carbonated drinks, citrus fruits and juices, spicy foods, and tomato sauce.
avoid lying down for at least three hours after meals and use extra pillows under your head during sleep.
You can use over the counter antacid (
Gaviscon), H2 antagonists and
proton pump inhibitors which may have been prescribed by your doctor.Your doctor may advise you X-ray,Esophageal
endoscopy and manometry to authenticate diagnosis.
Hope it helps.
Take Care!
