Throbbing Pain In Gums, No Cavity, Swelling, Bleeding. Will It Be Effective?

I am in Malaysia on vacation when I suddenly developed a pain in my teeth. No swelling, no cavities, no bleeding. A throbbing pain in the gum area(lower right jaw). Visited a local dentist today, and they were not too sure as well. Prescribed Metrogyl 200 capsules 2, thrice a day and Betamox 500 capsule 1, thrice a day. Is this an effective medication, asking since they were not too sure as well after examining me.

hi...
thanks for the query...
well.. sometimes cavity is present in between the two teeth which one can't see by naked eye... so alongwith proper clinical examination, radiographic examination is also required..
in that case, filling of tooth or root canal treatment may be required...
as you are on vacations, so you continue with medication for time being and visit your dentist after you come back..
hope it will help you...
take care...

Hi ! No one can be sure if there are no positive findings. However if there is a undiagnosed infection, metrogyl and Betamox may work and give you relief. You can also add a local antiseptic solution for gurgling two to three times a day. If you do not get relief, you may have to get yourself reviewed by the treating doctor. Wishing you an early recovery.

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

Throbbing pain in gums may be due to-bone loss at the interdental area, gingival recession, cervical abrasion.

Exposed root portion has to be covered with tooth coloured restorative material.

Tissue grafting has to be done to cover up the bone loss.

Use soft interdental toothbrush as well as dental floss.

Desensitising toothpaste and chlorhexidine mouthrinses has to be used.

Take care.

Hello,

Your cause of pain may be undiagnosed but as a purpose of relief you were advised the drugs. Metrogyl is the drug of choice for any infections in the oral cavity. Betamox (amoxycillin 500 mg) covers the whole of the bacterial spectrum.

Pulsating (or throbbing) pain is a common feature of developing infection. But some other medical conditions such as migraine may also elicit such feature. A detailed history or examination is required.

Thanks

Hi there
Thanks for asking your query
Sudden onset of pain in tooth can be of acute infection,
Sometimes tooth looks sound clinically but it may show cavity in xrays mostly in proximal sides,i will suggest you to get a clinical xray done
Continue the medication prescribed by dentist and visit again if the symptoms continue
Meanwhile maintain good oral hygiene and gargle twice or thrice a day with saline water
Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

According to your clinical symptoms i suppose that the pain can be due to infection in the tooth or can be due to errupting wisdom tooth.
I would suggest you to visit to the Dentist and get the thorough clinical examination done, look for impacted or errupting wisdom tooth, take an OPG radiograph.
Continue with the medication given by the Dentist.
At home take lukewarm saline and antispetic mouthwash rinses.

Hope this helps out,

Regards...

Hello,

Thanks for choosing HCM,

After reading your present symptoms I feel mild inflammation is there in the periodontal region...means the tissue sorrounding the tooth...

Whatever antibiotic you are having is perfect only...

You can go for whole mouth scaling to remove the deposits arround your teeth...

Inflammation can occur from the deposits called calculus...

Do warm saline mouth rinses 3-4times/day..

You can massage your gum after brushing that will increase blood circulation...

If you will not get relief after 5-6 days then x-ray is required for that tooth..

If you have any furthur doubts please feel free to revert back....

Regards....
