Thyroid Stimulating Hormone Level High. Prescribed Thyrofit. Dosage Of Medication?
Recently I got medical check up and found that thyroid stimulating hormone is 8.88 than the healthy adults limit of 0.27 to 4.20. Doctor has prescriped Thyrofit 50 mg tablet for 6 months. My query is this tablet is to be taken only 6 months and ca be stopped or to be continued for long time and also can you pl. describe how thyrofit tablet reduces body weight?

Your case is sub clinical hypothyroidism,if TSH is level is very high symptoms and sign of hypothyroidism very clear in your case supplimentation of thyroid harmone will correct the leve and after that thyroid function will be required to be repeated and any possibility of autoantibodies like AMA/TPO(Thyroid Peroxidase) may be required.Some times Inflamation of thyroid gland is Transient the drug may be stopped with observation .But in most cases where there is pathology and harmone level is low and TSH is high a life long supplimentation is required. Thyroid is not for weightloss although those are hypothyroid loose weight because loss of oedema. In your case time will let you know if drug can be stopped or not. best of luck.
