Toddler With Swollen Knees, Painful Ankles, Unable To Walk. X-ray Clear But After Blood Test Suspect Lyme. Doctors Unsure.

So Sunday morning around 3:30am My baby girl woke up crying because her ankle was hurting... I took her to the ER that day and they took X-rays of her ankle and pelvis because she wouldn't walk at all... the next day her knee was swollen about 2x bigger then the other knee.. So I decided to take her up to urgent care and see what's wrong so they draw blood and do a x-ray on her knee and tell me everything was normal to go home and ill call you about results for blood work... So I did... About a hour later they call and tell me that she has lyme disease in her blood but the test is not 100% accurate so they are doing a confirmation test to make sure they put her on antibiotics for 28 days 3 times a day and ibuprofen to help her walk 3 times a day as needed and to follow up with her pediatrician... so today I go to her pediatrician and he tells me that her knee maybe dislocated and that even if she had lyme disease she should of been walking perfectly fine by now so he sends me to a orthopedist in Middletown so I go there and they tell me oh well lets wait on it let her stay off her feet as much as possible and then come back in a week... CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHATS WRONG WITH MY THREE YEAR OLDS KNEE ALREADY!!!!!!!!!! There is no need for me to go to 4 different places and someone still not give me a solid answer!!!

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,
Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.
This type of presentation is seen in children with viral arthritis, reactive arthritis, and some times in children with scurvy.
Dislocations on both sides of knees is rare.
I suggest you to continue the medication as advised by the doctor and take an opinion from orthopedic surgeon.
Hope I have answered your query.
Regards.
I find this answer helpful
