hello sir
i read your problem.
i would like to tel you that extraction or any other dental
treatment do not have any effect on eyes.its a huge
misconception.
you underwent catatact surgury after extraction but
it was not related to tooth extraction.
so i would advice you kindlt undergo every dental
treatment which you require without any fear.
i would also advice you to undergo flouride application
in order to avoid further caries .
kindly brush twice daily and use mouthwash to maintain
your oral hygiene.

Dear Sir,
Tooth extraction is nowhere related to your eye problem, may be coincidently you might have developed cataract.
You can get the other dental treatment done without any fear of eye vision, Please get the cavities restored at the earliest to avoid other complications.

Thanks & Regards,
Dr Katta R Venkatesh

hello and welcome,

as per your quiery,do you experience any kind of dental problem now?

there is not all any connection or association with blurred vision and dental extraction.

nothing to worry to take dental treatments even if you had undergone cataract surgery.visit your dentist and get your teeth checked.if there is gum infection/plaque/food debris, get your teeth cleaned.

check also for decayed tooth and get it restored according to its nature.

if the decay has invoved pulp and periapical area, root canal treatment/pulpotomy/pulpectomy/pulp capping has to be done.

the only thing you should take care is give your complete medical history prior to start any dental treatment.
brush your teeth twice daily with soft inter dental brush.maintain good oral hygiene.
use mouth wash, to remove the micro organisms in mouth.

Hello Sir
Welcome to HCM
I went through your history & would like to clarify your doubt that there is no relation between extraction of teeth & vision problem.Dental treatment doesn't effect eye in any ways.your cataract problem might have started for some other reason.
If you still have cavities that are untreated then you must go for their restoration.Otherwise if decay proceeds then it may require Root Canal Treatment. Its better to go for conservative treatment.
Prophylactically go for fluoride application of other teeth. Also start brushing your teeth twice a day, along with using mouthwash once daily half an hour after brushing.
Kindly start your dental treatment without any delay.

Take Care

hello and welcome to HCM forum vivek,
I am glad you posted your query, according to the dental history presented by you i would like to inform you that dental treatment and eye problems can never be linked together.
but , as for the dental caries, its very important to maintain proper oral hygiene, kindly use a soft bristles tooth brush with any tooth paste(twice/day), use a dental floss (once/day).
also, rinse with water after every meal, to keep your mouth free of food debris.
I would advise you to see your dentist every 6 moths for a regular dental check up and cleaning, do not fear of visiting a dentist at all.
i hope i answered your query,
i wish you good health,
take care.

Dentist Dr. Gunjan Gupta's  Response
hi Vivek,
Thanks for writing in.
I read your query, first of all i would like to inform you that there is no correlation between cataract and dental problem.
Cataract is a specific protein of eye lens related problem.
There are so many reasons of cataract like-
1.aging
2.hereditary enzyme defect in early childhood cataract,
3.excessive ultraviolet rays exposure,
4.diabetes,
5.smoking,etc......
And that is true eye are very important.
So nothing to get worried, please visit a dentist near by your place, and get restoration done for decayed teeth, otherwise in the absence of proper treatment caries will proceed deeper and reach to the pulp,in that case you have to go for root canal treatment and again if will ignore that problem,it will destroy the most of the tooth structure and supporting tissues, which will lead to removal of teeth.
So please visit to a dentist as soon as possible and take a proper treatment to related problems.
take care

hello Mr. Vivek, first of all i'm sorry to inform you that you are having a misconception about the relation between tooth extraction and vision of eye--actualy extraction of tooth does not affect vision of eye any way.so don't be panicked before consulting your dentist......rather go to your dentist ASAP to fix your other dental problems....wish you good health.thank you.

Dentist Dr. Geoffrey Ward's  Response
Hello and thank you for your question,
the only way dental work can hurt your vision is: if something is dropped in your eye physically (why we ask you to wear glasses during procedures), or if you use laughing gas after a very recent Cataract surgery, usually within twelve weeks since the surgery. If you use laughing gas or nitrous oxide, you could get a gas bubble within the surgical site of your eye. Make sure your dentist is aware of your surgery to determine if this would be an issue. Since it was in 2010, it wouldn't matter now.

There isn't a correlation between dental treatment and intra-ocular pressure (cataract).

It's a safe bet you will be fine with any dental procedures.

Best Wishes

Dr. Ward
