Tooth Filling Got Replaced And Hit The Nerve. Bruise On Cheek. What To Do?
I had a filling replaced 4 weeks ago and when the dentist shot the novacaine she must have hit a nerve. I almost felt like I was going to pass out and started seeing double. She tipped me back to get blood to my head and I started to feel somewhat better. The next day I woke up with a bruise on my cheek and its still there 4 weeks later. I'm getting concerned that the bruise is not going away. What should I so?
According to your clinical history i suspect that you might have developed a haematoma at the time of administration of LA, i would suggest you to take tab brufen for pain relief, apply ice packs externally over the swelling, take lukewarm saline gargles and antiseptic mouthwash rinses. If the swelling does not subside or worsen then visit to the Dentist and get the checkup done.
Hi Kathleen,
Thanks for posting your query.
Bruise on cheek after administration of LA solution usually lasts for 2-3 days.
I would advice you to apply frequent cold packs on the affected site.
Drink plenty of water and fluids to keep yourself nourished.
If bleeding continues, coagulants has to be taken in.
Gargle using povidine iodine solution.
Take complete course of antibiotics and analgesics .
Avoid impinging the affected area.
Maintain oral hygiene well.
Take care.
your clinical history shows you have got allergic reaction to the local anesthetic solution , novocaine injected in the cheek mucosa during the dental procedure.
You may have developed a small HAEMATOMA on the cheek mucosa ,which will resolve in few days nothing to worry about.
i would suggest you to go for symptomatic treatment at home like gargling with lukewarm saline water or antiseptic mouthwash like chlorhexidine or betadine which will give soothing effect.
Apply oral antiseptic ,analgesic ointments like dentogel or mucogel topically over the affected area and massage the area.
I understand that you had been given local anesthesia for a filling. The bruise could be because of cheek biting as the numbness was there due to anesthesia, or it could be even a haematoma or an allergic reaction. If the bruise is not healing I would advise you to check with the dentist.
Take Care
